WELCOME TO TALAWANDA HIGH SCHOOL!

The faculty and staff wish all students a successful year at Talawanda High School. We are extremely fortunate that on this date, we are preparing for a “normal”, pre-Covid start to our school year. Your success, as always, depends on regular attendance, good study habits, self-discipline, and social responsibility.  We will provide opportunities for everyone to experience academic excellence. Not only do we encourage excellence, we expect it. We believe your experience at Talawanda High School will be enriched through high academic achievement, participation in the arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Participation will help establish pride and loyalty in your successes, school, and school district.

We will be hosting Freshmen and New Student Orientation on Wednesday, August 11 from 6-8. Because of the ever-changing considerations we face with the Covid Variant we will not be meeting as a large group. Students will receive their schedules in the cafeteria and have an opportunity to meet with their Freshman Academy teachers in the 400 wing of the building as they visit each section of the building.  Students in grades 10-12 and their families are invited to Open House where they can pick up their schedules on Monday, August 16 from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Families and students will have the opportunity to visit their classrooms.

Please make sure all information is current and complete in Final Forms. We are privileged to offer a 1:1 device learning environment at THS.  Freshmen students will receive their devices the first full week of school. It is important that they have completed their Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) available online through Final Forms.  We provide a 1:1 environment so you will have a device that will help you do your very best academically. Please be proud of this resource the community has provided.

The past months have been difficult for everyone. We are trusting that we will be able to have school closer to the “normal” we enjoyed prior to March 2019. Our District theme for the year is Healing.  Healing from loss, separation, unwanted, sometimes beyond our control, change. We will continue our theme, Relationships before issues and tasks, #RelationshipsB4Tasks. We believe that before students can be successful, there must be a mutual respect and concern for each and every person in the building.  Everyone’s goal is to direct students toward personal growth and future success. We have established expectations to create an environment that promotes this goal. To attain this goal, a working relationship among students, staff, parents and community members must exist. Cooperation among these groups will help to ensure successful personal development of our students. We are determined and have dedicated ourselves, as a staff, to help you take on every challenge and overcome any obstacle to your success.

Please read and be familiar with the guidelines set forth in the Student Code of Conduct. These Guidelines can be found on the THS web site. If you are respectful of others and treat others as you want to be treated, everything will fall into place.

We look forward to seeing you all on the first day of school, August 18.  Picture day will take place August 19.  Students will receive the order form either at Open House/Orientation or the first day of school.  Good luck and have a successful year!

Sincerely,

The Administrative Team

Tom York, Principal                                                                                                                                                     Rebekah Butz, Assistant Principal                                                                                                                                   Chris Rhoton, Assistant Principal
