TALAWANDA HIGH SCHOOL E- News- November 12, 2021

Dear Parents,

Our students will be participating in a Student Drug Use survey from PreventionFirst! PreventionFirst! is assisting Butler County to determine prevention programs that are relevant to the students. The survey is totally anonymous and the data from the survey is reviewed in total or in aggregate.  Individual responses are not available or examined. If you do not want your child to take the survey, please see the attached letter to opt out. The survey will be done during the Tutorial period on November 18.

Thank you,

Tom York

Talawanda High School Principal

Dear Parents & Guardians,

As we continue our drug prevention efforts in the Talawanda School District, we ask for your support as we administer the PreventionFIRST! student drug use survey. This is an anonymous student survey about alcohol use, drug use, and other health behaviors.  The survey information will help guide the District and the community in its evaluation of current programming, as well as the investigation of other prevention and intervention strategies that can support our students and encourage them to lead healthy, substance free lives.

The PreventionFIRST! Student drug use survey is a thoroughly researched group of questions that can give us valuable insight into many positive and negative student behaviors. The survey is an anonymous survey and students are not required to participate.  It is voluntary on the part of each student.

If you prefer that your child not participate, please inform our office by filling out the form below before Tuesday, November 16th.   The survey will be administered on Thursday, November 18th  during the school day.  If we do not receive a form from you, we will assume that your student can participate.

A copy of the survey is available in the main office if you would like to review its content.  A summary of the information gathered will be shared with parents when results are obtained.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Amy Macechko, Health and Wellness Coordinator, at 273-3390.  Thank you for supporting our efforts to help students make healthy and safe decisions around substance use.

The show is family friendly and follows a high school teen trying to finish her Great Gatsby paper before school, only to get dragged down into the rabbit hole that is the internet along the way.

As you know, the pandemic strained a lot of students and student activities.  The drama program was left with barely any resources, so this show will be the first opportunity to boost their funding and allow any future productions.  We would love to have you all attend and if you'd be willing to advertise for us, I've included our poster.   These can be shared virtually, but I can also drop off copies tomorrow or Monday to anyone who would be open to posting physically.

Here is the QR code to purchase tickets for the show.

Thank you,

Melanie Mortimore

Drama Director
