The mission of Marshall Elementary is to work as a community to achieve higher levels of thinking and learning by empowering every learner everyday.

School News and Information

The Marshall PTG Walk-a-Thon is currently going on.  This is the PTG’s Fall Fundraiser and this year the goal is to raise $7,500.  The money raised supports the students at Marshall through field trips, assemblies, books and classroom supplies, and family events.  Thank you for your support and please encourage your family and friends to donate today.  If every student raises about $20 we will read our goal.  We invite you to join us on October 6th - See schedule below.  NOTE:  The Kindergarten time was changed to 10:30 which is different than the flyer that went home.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is an innovative creative problem-solving program for participants from kindergarten through high school. Teams of 5 to 7 participants are challenged to solve one of five unique Team Challenges and an Instant Challenge with no adult assistance.  Each of the five Challenges offers participants an opportunity to explore art, literature, drama, engineering, architecture, and improvisation. Interest forms have been sent home in today's Friday Folders!

Our regional tournament will be held in March at Miami University. Teams forming will require a parent or other adult that is willing to volunteer their time to be a team manager.  Free Manager/Coach training sessions are available in the fall.

It is time to begin forming and registering teams for this year. Please contact me in the near future if you are interested in helping to coach/manage a Destination Imagination team this year. Without managers, we cannot have teams. We will be hosting an information meeting about Destination Imagination on Wednesday, September 27th at 6:30 p.m. in the PDC at the Nelson Morrow Building located at 909 S. Main Street (directly behind SDS pizza). Parents and students are welcome to attend. We will explain the program, how teams are formed, and how to become a team manager. Sign ups will also be available for children interested in participating.

For more information about this program, go to www.destinationimagination.org and explore, or contact:

HB 410- Changes in Monitoring Student Attendance

School districts have always been required to monitor student attendance.  Recently, the State of Ohio passed HB 410, which implemented required steps that school districts must follow for all students who do not attend school on a regular basis.  In addition, school attendance is now recorded in hours and not days.  Every minute counts and each day that a student is absent is a little more than 6 hours.  All absences, both excused and unexcused absences will be tracked under the new system.

Excellent school attendance, 95% or above for each child is our goal. This means a student misses less than 9 days of school in a year or 1 day per month.  Excellent attendance is a great predictor of success in school. We appreciate the support that parents give to see that their child is prepared and attending school on a daily basis.

As part of the new requirements for HB 410, families of students that accumulate an excessive number of absence hours will be notified by mail from their individual school buildings.  Please note, this refers to ALL absences.  Notices will be sent for ALL absences totaling the following number of hours:  38, 56, 65, 72.  In addition, notices will be sent, and a meeting scheduled for students who reach the following numbers of unexcused absences, which may be considered an excessive number of unexcused absences : 30 consecutive, 42 in a month, 72 in a year.

Thank you for your attention to the new law and your understanding and cooperation.  If you have any questions, please contact the main office at 273-3600.
