School News and Information
Happy Friday! Huge shout out to our entire staff who have worked hard this past week and will continue to do so next week in order to get our new building ready for students prior to Labor Day. The building looks amazing and we can’t wait for you all to see it!
At the August BOE meeting the Talawanda Board of Education decided that masks will be required for students and visitors in our PreK-5th grade buildings for the start of the 2021-22 school year. This decision was reaffirmed and expanded to PreK-12 and all staff at the August 16, 2021 meeting. These decisions were based on creating a safe environment for all and also based on CDC, Ohio Department of Health, and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations.
School Opening
The 1st day for students in grades 1st through 5th grade at Marshall is Friday, August 27, 2021. The first day of school for Preschool and Kindergarten is Wednesday, September 1, 2021. The school day will begin at 9:30 am and we will finish at 4:15 pm. (3:30 pm on Wednesdays). Students may enter the building starting at 9:15 am.
Make sure to join us at Open House on Thursday, August 26th from 4:30-6:00 pm. For Open House, masks will be required while in the building following Talawanda Board of Education Policy. We ask that you come in, navigate the school, find your child’s classroom, and drop off supplies. We are excited that we can open the building for everyone to see our brand new facility, but we want to limit time and the number of people in the building when possible.
Pickup and Drop Off Information
Please see the new Drop off and Pick Up procedures for this year in this attached letter and a video drive through with the link below. We will follow a similar process to last year but with a new layout because of our new parking lot structure. Busses will unload and load behind the building and the car rider line will be in front of the building - unloading and loading about 10 cars at a time (hopefully this will speed things up). For the safety of everyone please do not pass cars in the car rider line. Pick up signs will be available at open house but if you would like to request one emailed to you and print it out at home please use the link below. For the 1st day of school and any day, please send a note with your child if they will be a car rider on that day or complete the Permanent Pick Up Form - this way we will know to send them to car rider pick up.
Kindergarten Family Meetings
The Kindergarten teachers will meet with families individually during their allotted time slot on the 1st three days of school, August 27, 30, or 31. When visiting the building, we remind family members and students to wear a mask while inside the building. We ask that siblings do not attend the meeting.
Transportation Changes & Moving
If you will be requesting a change in bus transportation for your child for the 2021-2022 school year, please complete the attached Peterman Transportation Form and return to school as soon as possible. If you moved over the summer, please contact the Bogan office to update your forms.
If your child was on a remote learning plan last school year, the transportation department must have an updated form to assign your child a bus. Please contact the Transportation Office with any questions at 513-273-3150 or email raderl@talawanda.org.
Phones
Our new phones recently became operational and will use the same numbers as previous years - 513-273-3600 is our main number. This is great news but we still have some programming to complete and staff still need training and access to voicemail. Please note that if you have called within the last few days and left a message that we are not ignoring you, we simply have not been able to set up access to voicemail. It was amazing to learn that we have over 40 hours of training for all of the new systems in our building.
Device Collection
If you still have a device or materials from last year at home, you may bring them with you to Open House to return or send them in on the first day of school. Please attach a note with your child’s name on any chromebook or iPad.
Covid Related Procedures
All students and staff (PreK-12) are required to wear masks on all Talawanda transportation vehicles per CDC guidelines and under federal law. See CDC Guidelines here
The Talawanda Board of Education voted on August 16, 2021 to require masks for all PreK-12 students, staff, and visitors while indoors at school. The Board of Education will continue to monitor COVID-related issues and will continue to discuss and/or set policy as needed by following all health and safety guidelines as outlined in the district’s pandemic plan, and as directed by the Butler County Health Department (BCHD), Ohio Department of Health, and the CDC. The CDC and the BCHD strongly recommend seeking the COVID vaccine.
Within the building, drinking fountains will not be available. Students should bring their own water bottle which can be filled at school.
TSD Lunch Program
The National Lunch Program has extended the free meal status for all students for breakfast and lunch for the 2021-2022 school year. We are still requesting that families complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. This application is used to waive or reduce school fees for families who qualify.
We are excited to offer a NEW program for students who pack, and it's FREE packages of snacks/veggies/fruit and optional milk. Any student can take advantage of this, including packers. Please see this flyer for additional information.
Fees
School fees can be paid on the Talawanda website via EZPay or by sending a check to school with your child. Please include the child’s name in the memo.
Head Start Preschool
Butler County Educational Service Center's Head Start program is a federally-funded, family-focused preschool program for children ages 3-5. With a center located in Marshall and in communities throughout Butler and Preble counties, the program has a goal of improving the school readiness and social competence of young children to better prepare them for the future.
