Marshall Elementary Weekly E-News

October 29, 2021

A Peaceful, Productive, Healthy, and Happy Community

The mission of Marshall Elementary is to work as a community to achieve higher levels of thinking and learning by empowering every learner everyday.

School News and Information

Happy Friday! Unfortunately the rain did not hold off so we held our Halloween parade inside and we had some fun game show games during lunch.  The office dressed as the Price is Right and Mr. Hinton was Drew Carey and hosted the lunch time games.  The students and staff had some great costumes!

Please remember that there is no school for students on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.  Voting will take place in most of the buildings and this is a district professional development day.

Drop off and Pick Up Reminders

We have seen an increase in the number of cars dropping off and picking up students.  Please pull forward and fill in all available space in the line so that we can keep the line as short as possible and keep the line moving.  Please make sure you have your name sign displayed so we can easily enter the names for the correct pick up order.  Thank you for your help.

Cooler Weather

As the weather is turning cooler, please remember to send your child dressed to go outside at recess.  This means jackets, coats, hats, and gloves.  In general, we go outside for recess unless the temperature/wind chill drops below 25 degrees. Please label coats & hats with your student’s name. Thank you.

FCCLA Trunk or Treat

The FCCLA and Child Development class is sponsoring the 1st annual Trunk or Treat event at the high school on Friday, October 29th, 6-8 pm.  Click HERE for more information.

Covid-19 Protocols

Talawanda recently received the updated recommendations regarding Covid-19 protocols from the Ohio Department of Health.  These recommendations seem to provide some additional ways in which to provide in-person learning in public schools in Ohio for students that may have been exposed to Covid-19 in our schools, while still taking precautions to keep students and staff at low risk of exposure to the Covid-19 virus.  Students will be permitted to eat together during breakfast and lunch sessions, but masks will still be required immediately before and after eating.  We will continue to monitor Covid-19 risks/exposures/cases, and should the number of cases increase these recommendations may change. We will continue to monitor person-to-person direct contact to reduce the risk of exposure.  It is the goal of everyone to keep students and staff healthy.  The recommendations provide ways for exposed students to stay in school/school classrooms if specific guidelines are met, and to allow students that have been exposed but do not show symptoms to stay in extra-curricular if they adhere to the recommended testing protocols.  Covid-19 tests must be proctored tests or done in a medical facility, pharmacy, or physician's office.

Please remember that the CDC has a federal mask mandate in place for school buses, the city of Oxford has a city-wide mask ordinance in place, and the TSD Board of Education requires masks to be worn inside TSD facilities.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we all work to best manage school issues related to the pandemic.  We continue to be in near-constant communication with the Butler County Health Department and will continue to follow their direction as our local county health authority.  We will notify school personnel and families as soon as possible should there be any changes to Covid-19 information and protocols.

Lane Library Tutoring

Jackie Berberich from the Lane Library shared the following information.

I am contacting you about a new program being offered to students grades 5-8 at the Oxford Lane Library.  We are collaborating with amazing Miami University Students who are available every Tuesday from 4-7 pm through November to tutor in math and ELA FOR FREE!  Parents just need to call the library to register each week. It is geared toward middle schoolers, but we have just opened it up to 5th graders as well.  The flyer says it is open to students in grades 6-8, but it has been expanded to include 5th-graders.

Try Hockey Free

Goggin Ice Center has a busy fall planned for the kiddos of our community. Every Sunday starting in November, we are highlighting a different elementary school to invite to Goggin for a free Sunday public skating day. Admission is free, just charging skate rental. and all the skaters have to do is say that they attend the selected school. It's easy, and hopefully, a great opportunity for skaters to try out our sport!
