Bogan Elementary Weekly E-News

May 21, 2021

Message from Dr. Niehaus

Happy Friday!

This will be my last communication through E-News.  I have been at Bogan since March as the Interim Principal and would like to thank all of you for the support shown to me.  Being with your children each day has been a joy.  From the little ones sent to my office for breaking a rule (which hopefully led to a “teaching lesson” ) and getting to know the students through tutoring them in my office, having them help me make morning announcements each day, watching them perform on stage at lunch, eating lunch with me in my office,, playing four square at recess and making certain they were safe at dismissal has been great! I have received about a hundred thank you cards from students --but this one was just precious:

“Dear Dr. Niehaus.

You were a great principal! I will miss you! The day you

stopped me in the hall to talk to me, I felt so good about myself.

Love,

S…..”

There is a saying in education that many years after your students leave--they will not remember the content that you taught them-but they will remember how you made them feel.

I hope S… will remember me fondly, if only for a short while.

We are planning a Clap Out for the 5th graders for when they leave the building on the last day of school.  5th grade parents are invited to participate (outside) for this event.  The final plan is to dismiss school at 3:15 on the last day of school (for all students).  5th Grade parents should be at Bogan and in place by 2:30 if they want to participate.  The purpose for starting early is to minimize bus and car congestion at dismissal time. A letter will be sent home to parents of 5th graders asking them to fill out information, in case they want to take their children home after the Clap Out.  This letter, which will need to be signed and returned, will help us streamline procedures for dismissal on the last day  and ensure the safety of each individual student.

Awards will be presented this year in each classroom.  Our goal is to capture the awards and provide a link for parents to view the award recipients. The link will be sent to you by May 25th.

Final plans are being made for Switch Day, which will be held on Monday, May 24th.  The purpose of Switch Day is to provide exposure to the next grade level for our Bogan students.  We will be following Covid protocols, which will cause the Switch Day event to be quite short.  Bogan remote students are invited to attend.  They should report to the Bogan’s front porch at 2:00 pm to be signed in.  Individual students will be escorted to a classroom by 5th grade students.--following Covid protocols.  Masks are required for each student entering the school.  The classroom in which all students visit during this time, will not necessarily be the classroom in which they will be assigned for the 2021-2022 school year.  Each grade level will provide an activity for the students, in order to familiarize the students to the next grade level. Remote students should be ready to return to their parents by approximately 2:40

Music Department Video LInk: Mrs. Pitt’s, Bogan’s music teacher, will be providing a link of music videos from this year’s student performances  (due to Covid, no concerts were held and she wants to share her students’ talents with parents).  Be watching for the link to be posted on E-News on May 26th.

If your child has lost anything this year, please remind them to check the Lost and Found as we have lots of items that will be donated to a charity at the end of the year if they are not claimed.

For families with high school students:  Wednesday, May 26th will NOT be an asynchronous day.  The 26th will be an exam day.

Have a great weekend!

Dr. B. Gayle Niehaus

Hotspot Collection- Mr. Rand

If your student is NOW attending school in person, but you were issued a hotspot while the district was hosting remote learning, we will begin collecting hotspots from just those students that are now face-to-face.

You may return the hotspot to your child's school, in the main office.  We will mark each student down as we receive the hotspots back.

If you have any questions, please contact your child's school.

We need your feedback! A group of community partners serving the Oxford area, including the Coalition for a Healthy Community - Oxford Area, Talawanda Schools, Miami University, the Butler County Mental Health and Addiction Services Board, and McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital/Tri Health, are working on a project to reduce gaps and address barriers to substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery programs. Your participation in the following survey will help us identify priorities and areas of focus for this work. Your feedback is completely voluntary and will remain anonymous.
