BOGAN E-NEWS 8/13/21

WELCOME VIDEO FROM MRS. MERZ

Happy Friday!  We hope you have navigated the heat this week!  Huge shout out to our custodians (Mr. Levi House, Mr. Lanny McHargue, and Mr. Dave Burnside) that worked hard all summer to make our building look amazing!  The Bogan staff have been in the school getting everything ready for the first day of school.  We are excited for a great school year!

At the July 8, 2021 meeting the Talawanda Board of Education decided that masks will be required for students and visitors in our PreK-5th grade buildings for the start of the 2021-22 school year.  This decision was based on creating a safe environment for all and also based on CDC guidance, especially in our buildings where we know students cannot be vaccinated.

School Opening

The 1st day for students in grades 2nd through 5th-grade is Wednesday, August 18, 2021.  The first day of school for kindergarten and 1st-grade students is Monday, August 23, 2021. The school day will begin at 9:30  am and we will finish at 4:10 pm. (3:25 pm on Wednesdays).  Students may enter the building for breakfast starting at 9:10 am.  Our first early dismissal Wednesday will be our first day of school at 3:25 pm on August 18th.

Make sure to join us at Open House on Tuesday, August 17th from 4:30-6:00 pm.  For Open House, we ask that families wear masks while they’re in the building.  We ask that you come in, navigate the school, find your child’s classroom, and drop off supplies.  We are excited that we can open the building for everyone, but we want to limit time and the number of people in the building when possible.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade Conferences

The kindergarten and 1st-grade teachers will meet with families individually during their allotted time slot on the 1st three days of school, August 18, 19, or 20.  Students received their conference time via their welcome letter.  If you have not received your letter, please call the Bogan office at 513-273-3400.  When visiting the building, we ask that family members and students wear a mask while meeting with the teachers.  We ask that siblings do not attend the meeting.

Transportation Changes & Moving

If you will be requesting a change in bus transportation for your child for the 2021-2022 school year, please complete the attached Peterman Transportation Form and return to school as soon as possible.  If you moved over the summer, please contact the Bogan office to update your forms.

If your child was on a remote learning plan last school year, the transportation department must have an updated form to assign your child a bus.  Please contact the Transportation Office with any questions at 513-273-3150 or email raderl@talawanda.org.

Federal Law Requires Masks to be Worn on All School Buses

All students and staff (PreK-12) are required to wear masks on all Talawanda transportation vehicles per CDC guidelines and under federal law. See CDC Guidelines here

PreK-5 students will need to wear masks at school and at extracurricular activities.  The Board of Education will continue to monitor COVID-related issues and will continue to discuss and or set policy as needed or directed by health officials.

Grades 6-12 students will not be mandated to wear masks, however health officials strongly encourage individuals who are not vaccinated to wear masks.  It is possible that this could change, as COVID spread increases and local government and health officials respond to the spread of the virus.

The district will continue to follow all health and safety guidelines as outlined in the district’s pandemic plan, and as directed by the Butler County Health Department (BCHD).  The CDC and the BCHD strongly recommend seeking the COVID vaccine.

TSD Lunch Program

The National Lunch Program has extended the free meal status for all students for breakfast and lunch for the 2021-2022 school year.  August Elementary Lunch Menu

We are excited to offer a NEW program for students who pack, and it's FREE packages of snacks/veggies/fruit and optional milk.  Any student can take advantage of this, including packers. Please see this flyer for additional information.

Head Start Preschool

Butler County Educational Service Center's Head Start program is a federally-funded, family-focused preschool program for children ages 3-5. With centers located in communities throughout Butler and Preble counties, the program has a goal of improving the school readiness and social competence of young children to better prepare them for the future. For eligibility and enrollment information, visit bcesc.org/apps/pages/head-start or call (513) 785-6850.

We have started the calendar for students, it can be found at the end of this email.  We will continue to update dates and times throughout the school year.

We are looking forward to a great school year.
