Bogan Elementary Weekly E-News

April 30, 2021

Message from Dr. Niehaus

Happy Friday!  We have officially wrapped up spring Ohio state testing.  We have some students that need to make up a few tests, but the majority of students have completed all tests. Thank you to all of our 3rd, 4th, 5th-grade students, staff, and teachers for getting this accomplished the last two weeks.

May 4- PD Day

May 4th is a PD day for Talawanda staff.  There is no school for students on May 4.

5th Grade End of the Year Activities

We are planning a few extra things for the 5th graders this year that will fall within the Covid Protocols - with the hope of making the students feel special.  On May 14th the 5th grade students will visit the Middle School and we will be having a pizza party for them after they return to Bogan.  The PTG will be providing snow cones for 5th graders on May 21st.  The 5th grade classroom teachers will also be organizing outdoor games/activities for the students on that day as well.

I will have a Clap Out for the 5th graders when they leave the building on the last day of school.  Parents will be invited to participate (outside) in this event.  I plan on finalizing the plans for the Clap Out and the other 5th grade activities at our Grade Level Meeting on May 12th.  I’ll provide final details to the parents in the Friday E-News by May 14th.

Due to Covid, the typical end-of-year activities will be planned differently.  Field Day will be held on Friday, May 21st--unfortunately, without parent volunteers. Since we have not been able to have concerts this year, Mrs. Pitts is working on making music videos to showcase  the talents of our students.  She will make the video available for students and parents to view.  Look for the link in our E-News in the coming weeks!

Awards will still be presented this year, but in each classroom.  Our goal is to capture the awards and provide a link for parents to view the award recipients.

Final plans are being made for Switch Day, which will be held on Monday, May 24th.  The purpose of Switch Day is to provide exposure to the next grade level for our Bogan students.  We will be following Covid protocols, which will cause the switch day event to be quite short.  Bogan remote students are invited to attend.  They should report to the Bogan’s front porch at 2pm to be signed in.  Individual students will be escorted to a classroom by 5th grade students.--following Covid protocols.  Masks are required for each student entering the school.  The classroom in which they visit during this time, will not necessarily be the classroom in which they will be placed for the 2021-2022 school year.  Each grade level will provide an activity for the students in order to familiarize the students to the next grade level. Remote students should be ready to return to their parents by approximately 2:40

Chromebooks (and chargers) will be collected this year.  Please return to school no later than May 20th.

For families with high school students:  Wednesday, May 26th will NOT be an asynchronous day.  The 26th will be an exam day.
