BOGAN E-NEWS 11/5/21

Happy Friday! We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Veteran’s Day 11/11

As part of our Bogan Veteran’s Day celebration we would like to recognize any Veterans connected to our Bogan Family.  Please send names and/or photos in with your student by Tuesday of next week. We will display names and photos on our Wall of Heroes. (Please do not send family heirloom photographs.  We will do our best to get photos back to students, but certainly would not want any treasured photos lost.)  We would also like students to wear red, white and blue on Thursday to honor veterans everywhere.

Cooler Weather

As the weather is turning cooler, please remember to send your child dressed to go outside at recess.  This means jackets, coats, hats, and gloves.  In general, we go outside for recess unless the temperature/wind chill drops below 25 degrees. Please label coats & hats with your student’s name.  If your child is in need of seasonally appropriate clothing, a coat, gloves or a hat, please reach out to Kelley Franks in the Bogan Office at 273-3403 or franksk@talawanda.org Thank you.

Covid-19 Protocols

Talawanda recently received the updated recommendations regarding Covid-19 protocols from the Ohio Department of Health.  These recommendations seem to provide some additional ways in which to provide in-person learning in public schools in Ohio for students that may have been exposed to Covid-19 in our schools, while still taking precautions to keep students and staff at low risk of exposure to the Covid-19 virus.  Students will be permitted to eat together during breakfast and lunch sessions, but masks will still be required immediately before and after eating.  We will continue to monitor Covid-19 risks/exposures/cases, and should the number of cases increase these recommendations may change. We will continue to monitor person-to-person direct contact to reduce the risk of exposure.  It is the goal of everyone to keep students and staff healthy.  The recommendations provide ways for exposed students to stay in school/school classrooms if specific guidelines are met, and to allow students that have been exposed but do not show symptoms to stay in extra-curricular if they adhere to the recommended testing protocols.  Covid-19 tests must be proctored tests or done in a medical facility, pharmacy, or physician's office.

Please remember that the CDC has a federal mask mandate in place for school buses, the city of Oxford has a city-wide mask ordinance in place, and the TSD Board of Education requires masks to be worn inside TSD facilities.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we all work to best manage school issues related to the pandemic.  We continue to be in near-constant communication with the Butler County Health Department and will continue to follow their direction as our local county health authority.  We will notify school personnel and families as soon as possible should there be any changes to Covid-19 information and protocols.

Destination Imagination

Talawanda's Destination Imagination program is a great way to get involved in a STEAM (STEM + Art!) activity even among the chaos of COVID-19! It is a team-based challenge program that requires creativity and teamwork. Teams can choose to solve one of six challenges in the areas of science, technology, fine arts, improv, outreach, and engineering - or teams of K-2nd grade complete the early learning challenge. While safety is still a top concern, this year's program is designed to make up lost time for kids to regain social skills through teamwork and engage in collaborative problem-solving

Lane Library Tutoring

Jackie Berberich from the Lane Library shared the following information.

I am contacting you about a new program being offered to students grades 5-8 at the Oxford Lane Library.  We are collaborating with amazing Miami University Students who are available every Tuesday from 4-7 pm through November to tutor in math and ELA FOR FREE!  Parents just need to call the library to register each week. It is geared toward middle schoolers, but we have just opened it up to 5th graders as well.  The flyer says it is open to students in grades 6-8, but it has been expanded to include 5th-graders.

Goggin Ice Center has a busy fall planned for the kiddos of our community. Every Sunday starting in November, we are highlighting a different elementary school to invite to Goggin for a free Sunday public skating day. Admission is free, just charging skate rental. and all the skaters have to do is say that they attend the selected school. It's easy, and hopefully, a great opportunity for skaters to try out our sport!
