Marshall Elementary Weekly E-News

August 27, 2021

A Peaceful, Productive, Healthy, and Happy Community

The mission of Marshall Elementary is to work as a community to achieve higher levels of thinking and learning by empowering every learner everyday.

School News and Information

Happy Friday!  We made it!  We are finally open and in our new building!  Today was a great day of navigating the new building and learning the rules, routines, and procedures in the classrooms and around the building.  We hope you enjoyed seeing our wonderful new building at Open House.  We still have some work that needs to be done in the evenings but we are so excited to be in the building with students before Labor Day.

Looking ahead, there will be no school for students on Friday, September 3, 2021, and Monday, September 6, 2021.  September 3rd is a district-wide PD day.  September 6th is Labor Day.

Thank you Marshall family for wearing your face coverings at Open House and  sending your children to school with their face covering today.  The students did a great job today!  Since students can take their mask off during recess, it is recommended that students attach their mask to a breakaway lanyard so they can keep track of it.  Also please note, drinking fountains will not be available.  Students should bring their own water bottle which can be filled at the bottler filler in the school.

Kindergarten

The first day of school for Preschool and Kindergarten is Wednesday, September 1, 2021. The school day begins at 9:30  am and ends at 4:15 pm. (3:30 pm on Wednesdays).  Students may enter the building starting at 9:15 am.  We will have staff members both outside and inside to help our kindergartners to their classrooms.

he Kindergarten teachers will meet with families individually during their allotted time slot on the 1st three days of school, August 27, 30, or 31.  When visiting the building, we remind family members and students to wear a mask while inside the building.  We ask that siblings do not attend the meeting.

Pickup and Drop Off Information

Please review the  Drop off and Pick Up procedures for this year in this attached letter and a video drive through with the link below.  We will follow a similar process to last year but with a new layout because of our new parking lot structure.  Busses will unload and load behind the building and the car rider line will be in front of the building - unloading and loading about 10 cars at a time (hopefully this will speed things up).  For the safety of everyone please do not pass cars in the car rider line.  Pick up signs were distributed at Open House or with students today but if you would like to request one emailed to you and print it out at home please use the link below.  For any day, please send a note with your child if they will be a car rider on that day or complete the Permanent Pick Up Form - this way we will know to send them to car rider pick up.

COVID 19- Procedures and Protocols- Mrs. Morrish

Talawanda School District has a mask mandate in place for all students, staff, and visitors per the August 16, 2021 Board of Education meeting.

Butler County Health Department will quarantine and isolate students, staff, and visitors when there is direct contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID19 if…

a. Masks are not worn or worn improperly (they need to be above the nose and covering the mouth), and the individuals were within 6 feet of distance and there were at least 15 minutes of contact.

b. One person wore a mask and one person did not wear a mask and was within 6 feet of distance for 15 minutes of contact or more.

c. All individuals who have tested positive for COVID19 will be isolated by BCHD.

d. When 2 individuals are within 3 feet of each other for more than 15 minutes, and unvaccinated, regardless of masks.

Butler County Health Department will not quarantine and isolate individuals if...

a. The person is fully vaccinated (after 2 weeks of the second dose) and wears a mask properly.

b. All individuals are wearing a mask at all times and have at least 3 feet of separation.

Talawanda School District will assist BCHD with contact tracing and notifications.

Talawanda School District will work with BCHD on all COVID19 matters.

Individuals may test on days 5, 6, or 7 from their last contact with a positive person.  If the individual has a negative COVID19 test on days 5, 6, or 7, the individual may return on day 8.  The test results must be submitted to the school.

Any individual who exhibits COVID19 symptoms should not come to school until cleared.

Extracurricular Activities (including Athletics)...

These activities are high risk.  Families who engage understand and accept the risks.

All must wear masks when indoors when not actively participating.

Spectatorship has not been limited at this time.

If the individuals do not wear masks 100% of the time, they will be considered not wearing a mask and subject to the 6 feet rule and 15 minutes.

OHSAA as well as Talawanda strongly recommend that all students who have tested positive receive a medical clearance (as recommended by OHSAA) for any heart ailments before returning.

The school nurse and BCHD will make all final decisions.  There will be unique situations that may result in a different outcome.

All students and staff (PreK-12) are required to wear masks on all Talawanda transportation vehicles per CDC guidelines and under federal law. See CDC Guidelines here

Please note:  the COVID19 protocols and procedures continue to evolve.  There may be different procedures and protocols in the future.  We appreciate your understanding as we continue to do our best to navigate these very complicated issues.
