School News and Information

Happy Friday! The last couple of days have been wonderful weather. We wish it would stay that way. State assessments have gone well this week. 1 more week for 3rd and 4th grade and 2 more for 5th grade. The year is quickly coming to an end. We have many activities planned for the remainder of the year but we are still focused on learning. Thanks for your support and encouragement over the next few weeks.

Congratulations to the Reily Township Fire/EMS Department who has been awarded the 2023 State of Ohio Fire Department of the year. This is a very prestigious award and as a Volunteer Fire Department, they have excelled over all other departments in the State of Ohio. Thank you and Congratulations to this very dedicated group of men and women - many of whom are Talawanda and Marshall graduates and parents of students at Talawanda and Marshall.

Extra yearbooks are available (limited quantity) for $18 cash only in the school office.

Spring State Assessment Dates for Grades 3 and 4: April 17 to 28 Grade 5: April 17 to May 4

From the Marshall PTG

The PTG Foertmeyer and Sons spring flowers will be delivered on Saturday 4/22. Families with last names A-L can pick up between 12:30-1:30 and families M-Z can pick up between 1:30-2:30.

Mark your calendars! Marshall Mayfest which will take place May 19th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

The PTG is looking for 60 volunteers to help us make this event a success! Volunteers are needed for games, prizes, bounce houses and concessions. Last 3 Days End of School Year

Talawanda will have early release the last 3 days of school (Wednesday-Friday) May 24-26.
THS Dismissal- 1:15 pm
TMS Dismissal- 1:30 pm
Elementary- 2:30 pm

Talawanda High School will host the GRADUATION ceremony Friday May 26th at 7 pm at Millett Hall.

Pay close attention to your child's school calendar (in the weekly enews) for individual school activities listed as we move closer to the end of this school year.

Touch-a-Truck

Marshall will be hosting Touch-a-Truck on the morning of Monday, May 15th. If you or someone you know would be willing to share your time and vehicle with the event, please contact Teresa Peter at petert@talawanda.org.

Lions Club Eyeglasses Collection

Hello!! It's that time of year again! Time to collect the donated eyeglasses for the Lions Club Sight Saving Program! We will be boxing up the glasses donations in the next few weeks and shipping them off!

Mock Trial Camp for 5th Graders

Foster Grandparent Program

If you know of anyone over 55, the AmeriCorps Seniors program is looking for people to be Foster Grandparents and come help out in the school. Please see the attached flier for more information.

Kindergarten Registration

Talawanda School District is now accepting Kindergarten registration for the 2023-2024 school year. Any child whose fifth birthday is on or before August 1, 2023 is eligible to register for kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year.

Please call the school office at the school located within your attendance area to register your child. If you are unsure of which school attendance area you live in, please call Petermann Transportation @ (513) 273-3150 for verification on which school your child will attend.

After enrollment forms are completed, parents must furnish their child’s certified birth certificate, immunization records, certified-court stamped divorce decree with custody papers (if applicable), copy of parent(s) drivers license, and proof of residency in the Talawanda School District to complete their child’s Kindergarten enrollment.

Contacting Legislators

Holli Hansel has placed the information on the TSD website regarding contacting state legislators and the governor about school funding. Please consider taking a few minutes to advocate for fair school funding for Ohio. The state of Ohio's funding for public schools has been found unconstitutional multiple times. I will be reaching out to our legislators and please consider taking a few moments to do the same.

Please consider writing to our Ohio Board of Education, and other state leaders and elected officials. Check out the talking points and letters we've shared on our district website.

Reading at Home (RAH)

RAH will be back this year grades K-5 started today and continues each friday. Use this link to the RAH recording Sheet For our upper level readers, chapter books count as 1 book for every 25 pages of the chapter book read. One of the best ways for children to grow in their reading is to read. Just like the expression goes - practice makes perfect. RAH volunteers sign up

School fees can be paid on the Talawanda website via EZPay or by sending a check to school with your child. Please include the child’s name in the memo. Chromebook insurance for 5th grade cannot be waived.

Students must have their breakfast card to get a breakfast in the morning. These cards were given out at the beginning of the year and should be kept in one location of the student’s backpack.
