Title I Services

Title I  programs use federal funds to direct services to specific at-risk students above and beyond those services provided with regular state and local resources. The purpose of this funding is to provide supplemental funding to economically disadvantaged districts a for improving educational outcomes for students who are failing or at risk of failing to meet State standards.  At Talawanda, federal funds are used for additional reading instruction in grades K-3. Highly qualified teachers and educational assistants work with students in small groups to provide additional reading supports.

Talawanda believes that the education of children is a responsibility shared by the school and family throughout a child’s school years. In accordance with Section 1116 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as reauthorized by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the District receives Title I, Part A funds and, as a condition of receiving those funds, has developed this District-Wide Parent and Family Engagement Policy jointly with, and in agreement with, parents and family members of children participating in Title I, Part A programs.

This policy establishes the District’s expectations and objectives for meaningful parent and family involvement, and describes how the District will implement the required parent and family engagement activities described below to improve student academic achievement and school performance.
