Bogan Elementary Weekly E-News

October 9, 2020

School News and Information

Thank you to everyone who completed the decision form that was sent from the district.  We have been sorting the information and making plans to accommodate the decisions that were made.  We know that these decisions were very personal for each family.  The Talawanda School Board set two priorities: parent choice and that Talawanda teachers would provide instruction for both face to face students and remote learning students.  Because of this, changes will need to be made.  This means that, based on your family's decision, your child may have a new teacher assigned to them.   Therefore, everyone will receive a class placement letter which will come via email early next week.  Change is certainly a part of everyday life and over the past year we have experienced more changes than normal.  With every change we keep moving forward and look for the positive.

Speaking of change.  Since we are changing gears at the end of 9 weeks and this may mean changes in teachers for students, the Talawanda School District has decided to switch the Elementary Reporting Periods from Trimesters to Quarters.  This means that the report card will be available on Progressbook at the end of next week.  Given the short turnaround time and that we did not have many formal assessments of student learning, teachers will be reporting on the amount of work that has been completed by each student.  Students have been provided with feedback on their learning throughout this first quarter.  The new quarter will begin on October 20, 2020.

Immunizations

Immunizations are one of the most important ways to keep society healthy and school open.  All children must be up to date on immunizations by October 9, 2020 in order to participate in school.  Letters will be sent this week only to families who have not provided immunization records.  Please help us by taking care of this.

FLUency School Health Program- Sign up and get a free thermometer!!!

Mrs. Fangman, TSD Nurse shared the following information.

I am excited to let you know this great news! I applied for this and we were selected. This year Talawanda School District has been selected to participate in the FLUency School Health Program. The mission of the program is to prevent the spread of illness during cold and flu season at schools. The program works by providing our Elementary school families and staff with free award-winning Kinsa thermometers, our teachers free disinfectants, and our nurses with a private dashboard to see what's going around the school community (if parents choose to share anonymously).

The goal is to help stop illnesses before they even have the chance to spread. Families have the option to anonymously log and track symptoms and receive real-time, personalized guidance so they're able to make more informed decisions about when to take their child to the doctor and when to keep them home from school. You will also be able to monitor the anonymous health trends of your school community so you can react appropriately and encourage preventive health measures to keep healthy students well.

To learn more about the FLUency program, what we'll be receiving, and program timelines, please watch the short informational video here.

Please use this attachment to order your thermometer.
