Appointment of Talawanda Board Member to Fill Vacancy Notice:

OXFORD, OHIO-The Board of Education for the Talawanda School District will soon begin collecting submissions from individuals interested in filling the unexpired term of board member Matt Wyatt, who resigned effective September 25, 2026.

Under Ohio law, the board must appoint a replacement within 30 days of the resignation, which is October 24, 2026. The newly appointed member will serve until December 31, 2027. If the appointed member desires to continue serving for the remaining two years of the term, they must run in the next general election in November of 2027.

Those interested in serving in the vacancy appointment on the Board of Education, for the Talawanda School District, should contact Dr. Thomas Bailey, HR director, at boardvacancy@talawanda.org  for additional information. The guidelines for submissions will be distributed beginning Friday, September 25, 2026 to those who have expressed interest to Dr. Bailey. The deadline for submitting completed materials is 3:00pm on Friday, October 9, 2026. Any materials not received by 3:00pm will not be considered.

Board President, Dr. Rebecca Howard, indicated the Board will review submissions and meet in a Special Session at THS on a date to be determined, either during the week of October 12th or the week of October 19th. After opening the meeting, the Board will adjourn to Executive Session to review all submissions, then will reconvene in open session to vote on an appointed replacement (or announce next steps if a decision is not reached). More information will be distributed at that meeting if a final decision is not reached. Board policy po0145, which can be found on the TSD website, provides additional details regarding the process that the Board will follow in filling this vacancy.

According to Ohio law, people serving on Ohio school boards must be at least 18 years old, district residents, and registered voters.
