Last Basketball Game in Old THS

On Friday, February 17, 2012 Talawanda Boy’s Basketball team will host the Ross Rams, on their Senior Night, in the last HOME basketball game at the existing Talawanda High School.

Talawanda High School has been in existence since 1959, and has played host to many great girl’s and boy’s basketball games, and has seen great student athletes and coaches cross its court throughout the years.

On Friday, February 17th, we will close the doors to this gymnasium and say goodbye to all those great memories we have from a facility that has stood the test of time, and been a big part of so many great memories for coaches, athletes, and especially our community.

We are calling on all past coaches, players, game personnel, and our great fans to come to the gym on the 17th to help us send our team, and the gym, out on a great note.

Next season we open a whole new chapter in the history of our District as we move into a brand new high school, and as much as we are looking forward to this transition, it’s equally as important to recognize and remember all those that have made this gym so special!

So if you are a former coach, player, game personnel, or one of our long time loyal fans we WANT to see you on Friday, February 17th at 7:30pm as our boys take on the Ross Rams. We encourage you to wear your old spirit wear as you take a trip down memory land, and help us celebrate the end of this chapter.

Senior, Evan Bader, Signs National Letter of Intent to Swim at Miami University

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011 Talawanda High School Senior, Evan Bader, signed his letter of intent to swim for the Miami University RedHawks. Congratulations to Evan on his great accomplishment!

Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame Honorees Announced

The Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is proud to announce its selections for the 13th class of inductees! These honorees will be recognized on Thursday, October 13th in the annual Banquet and Induction Ceremony held in the Heritage Room of the Shriver Center on the campus of Miami University.

Talawanda Alumnus Wins Baseball Championship

On May 31st, the Marietta baseball team won the NCAA Div. 3 National Championship, which is their 5th National Championship and the most all time in Div. 3.

Former Talawanda Brave, Braden Park, a sophomore member of the Marietta baseball program, went 1 for 5 in the championship game.  Braden was an outstanding three sport athlete while at Talawanda, eventually choosing to play baseball at Marietta, and we are very excited for his championship!

Braden was selected as a 2011 Capital One Academic All-District third team pick, and also received All Ohio Academic OAC honorable mention recognition.

Bob Ratterman again covering Talawanda sports

Talawanda High School sports coverage is now available on-line at Examiner.com with coverage provided by former Oxford Press editor Bob Ratterman. The Talawanda sports page is housed on the Cincinnati Examiner.com Web site.

Ratterman was at The Oxford Press for 38 years, 20 of them as editor, and he covered Talawanda sports for much of that time. He accepted an early retirement offer last fall to find “something different” and is currently in a job search. Examiner.com gives him a chance to again be involved in Talawanda sports coverage, however.

“I am a sports nut and covering Talawanda sports was always one of my favorite parts of the newspaper job,” Ratterman said. I enjoyed knowing the coaches, athletes and school officials and writing stories about the athletes and their accomplishments. It’s fun to be able to do that again.”

Examiner.com is a national network of Web sites based in various cities with writers, called examiners, covering all aspects of life—including sports and recreation, entertainment, lifestyle issues, family & home and health & beauty as well as news. The Talawanda sports page is housed in the Cincinnati site for Examiner.com.
